Even the smallest 14er needs some love
Beautiful day and great views. Descended back over Redcloud to Silver Creek.
See the trip-report here: http://distantpeak.com/web/mountains/n-america/redcloud_peak
Great traverse between Redcloud to Sunshine with just enough snow and ice to make it fun!
Perfect day to be in the mountains - the descent was steep but I enjoyed it
fun descent into a beautiful basin-- steep and loose with one tricky spot
Climbed Redcloud, then summited Sunshine and descended its northwest ridge to Sundog. Fun day, but it was rainy off and on.
Continued on to Sunshine from Redcloud. Did Handies the following day.
Yet another 14er!
Jathan Cantu and Todd Schauer reached the summit of Sunshine Peak at 12:15 pm after descending from Redcloud our first fourteener!! The weather was overcast with intermittent sun and light rain most of the day. As we downclimbed through the talus field via South Fork Valley the sun and moisture made for a beautiful rainbow across the head of the valley looking down from Sunshine Peak. Another interesting scene was seeing the South Fork stream seemingly come out of nowhere from the side of a steep talus slope. You would think we were on another planet surrounded by the jagged cliffs and red peaks. Next stop...Handies Peak!
I hit Sunshine on my way from Sundog to Redcloud. It took me a little over three hours from trailhead over Sundog to Sunshine.
climbed with old ickabod in combo with Redcloud. Cool hike.
We Climbed Sunshine after summiting Red Cloud via the Silver Creek Trail the day before Independence Day.
As suggested, this is a long day, and steep ascent over poortly marked trails. Start your day early so you don't encounter twilight on the way down and miss the trail (as we did for a little while). Rewarding, if long, day!
Carried an sixty pound pack to the summit of Redcloud training for Rainier. Beautiful summit until Alpine Master told me he put a 5lb rock in my pack at the trailhead. Just to spite him I continued to carry it over to the summit of Sunshine Peak and back to the trailhead. A nice trip!
We had to basically follow cairns all the way up due to little or no triail. Long climb to a summit that has good views of Redcloud, Wetterhorn, and Uncompahgre
A nice solo tour in the San Juans up the Silver Creek Trail, over Redcloud from a nearby car camp.
Easy climb from Silver Creek. Double bagging of Sunshine and Redcloud #23 & #24.
Climbed same day as Redcloud, like most people. Climbed Handies the day before.
