SW weather in Lika

Lika is least inhabited region in Croatia. It is also coldest as it acts like a pool for cold air behind Velebit mountain. Moisture rich Mediterranean lows can dump 1m of snow in 24h here during harsh winters. This is typical situation when one such low is approaching with heavy rain in the early autumn. Velebit is in the dark and fat, with moisture rich clouds that are driven by strong SW winds and are just about to dump their heavy load. Mid day in Lika can look like nuclear winter then, fortunately this is just another beautiful side of nature. Photo: Aleksandar Gospic
