Taken 30 August 2003, on the way from Bright Angel Trailhead to the North Rim Lodges. Recent storms in the drainage of the Little Colorado River and perhaps other tributaries downstream of the dam were the cause of the unusually silty Colorado.

Nice shot!

A glimpse of what the mighty river looked like before the creation of Glen Canyon Plug and the Lake Foul National Evaporation Pond.

Re: Nice shot!

Yes. I would have loved to see the river before that mess of a dam was installed. Regarding the supposed water shortage here in the Southwest, I think it's particularly interesting that the annual evaporative losses of that environmental disaster -- even at its reduced surface area -- are more than Southern Nevada's entire annual allotment of 300,000 acre-feet. It's definitely worth destroying a beautiful canyon to get hydroelectric power so grown-adult idiots can leave the lights on in their offices all night.

Re: Nice shot!

Agreed! I take it you must be a supporter of Glen Canyon Institute.
