----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TASSAJARA RIDGE TRAIL-

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Tassajara Ridge Trail is a true hidden gem in the east bay, it is one of the only trails that take you through some of the back hills of San Ramon. The trail follows the top of the ridge for roughly 7-8 miles. There is only a few climbing, the steepest climb is a 700-740 elevation climb and while that number isn't the most impressive the hill its self is pretty unexpected and very steep but nothing extremely difficult. I was incredibly impressed with this trail not because of the difficulty but rather because of the location, it was the first time i got to see the back hills of San Ramon, Dublin, and even parts of Danville up close and personal!. Through my hike i noticed there are a array of sub trails that part from the main trail Tassajara Ridge, trails such as Rolling Hills trail (seen in picture) and a variety of overlook trails merge from the main trail, depending on the season parts of the sub and main trails are over grown with tall grass but still fairly easy to stay on trail. I started this trail at Windemere pkwy and ended at some court at Ivy Hill Way but a important piece about the trail is tor words my end to reaching that court the trail turns from Tassajara Ridge to Hidden Valley so with that being said if you are coming from Windemere and see the trail name change to Hidden Valley you are still on the right track!. I did not encounter alot of wildlife, just cattle and birds but out of the birds i saw there the environment had a good portion of Red Winged Black birds which is supposed to be rare. The landscape is almost identical to my last post about Sherburne Hills except the fact that Tassajara covers 3x the amount of miles with open space then Sherburne Hills. My recommendations for this trail is the simple things, bring water, avoid if temperature is over 80 degrees as THERE IS NO SHADE, be mindful if you bring a dog you are now in coyote and rattle snake territory, last but not least RESPECT THE ENVIRONMENT.
