Three peak day
Ascended the monotonous South Ridge (more like a mellow shoulder) to the summit. It was flatter than I expected. Then headed east to Missouri Hill & Lost Mountain.
Descended into Kangaroo Gulch and traversed low down following treeline & caught FSR 228 back to the trailhead.
Brutally hot day.

With Aetna
I came in CR 224 / FR 228 instead of the jeep road up from Garfield. There was good camping, and I got my medium-clearance car to about 10,800', but it's probably faster to just hike up the jeep road from ~9600' in Garfield if you plan to do both peaks. Stay on the ridge between them, as the bowl to the south is mostly steep and horribly loose.

Taylor/Aetna
1st peak of the day, steep, somewhat boring hike to the top of Taylor Peak, but nice views.

Aetna & Taylor via Grand Couloir
After huffing it up Aetna via the Grand, the ridge run to Taylor seemed easy by comparison. Spectacular views from this lofty peak. Still a TON of snow on these mountains and their approach roads! Zoomed down into the basin I forget the name of between the peaks then out the road system and back to the Jeep. Amazing day - I've got the sunburn to prove it!

From boss lake th
Hiked from Garfield to boss lake th, continued to Aetna via south ridge, descended to Aetna-Taylor saddle, up west ridge on Taylor, and down south/southwest ridge to Hoffman park. Detoured to check out the boss reservoir on the way back.
Lovely solo hike in deep snow. No single soul.

Hunkey Dory
Lisa and I climbed Mt Aetna and Taylor Mountain via the saddle between them. We found Taylor be be a nice walk from the saddle, whilst Aetna was quite the jumble of sharp talus. Our approach was up Hunkydory gulch from the North Fork of the Arkansas.

From Garfield
Started from the town of Garfield and climbed the SE slopes to the summit. Continued on to Aetna. Very COLD December day.
After climbing Aetna, Steve and I traversed over to Taylor. I thought Taylor had the better views of the two as the view to the east is unobstructed into the Arkansas Valley. Very windy on top!

With Aetna
After climbing Aetna, I really enjoyed Taylor's summit and view, a highly recommended peak
Route Climbed: Taylor Gulch Date Climbed: July 2, 2005
Afternoon climb. Expected a rough road, but it was smooth almost to tree line due to working quarry. The climb was monotonous except for the frequently encountered mines, prospecting pits, and other gouges in the hillside. Very windy on top. Nice views all directions though.
