This is an amazing, otherworldly scene. I can only imagine how great it was in person!
Thank you! It is an amazing, otherworldly place. This is just one of many colorful sandstone monoliths in the area. At dawn and sunset, they glow. Adding to the splendor is that the area is very remote.
Thank you for noticing and commenting.
...simply kicks ass !
Thank you, Tomek! I appreciate that coming from someone who has so many nice shots from the Southwest himself!
What a special shot. That is beautiful and you captured it perfectly.
Thank you! The Cathedral Valley area is one of my favorite places in this country, and I'm really glad I captured an image of it that others could enjoy. Thanks again!
Thank you! I hope you get out here someday and see it yourself, just as I hope to see those beautiful mountains you share with us here on SP!
I hope also. Thanks, BSIHLER!
Nice. My wife and I spend a lot of time in Utah.Capital Reef is one of our favorite places to explore. I believe this is "Temple Of The Sun". Did you get a chance to see Glass Mountain? It's in the general area from which this photo was taken. Did you camp at the Plateau?
Thank you for looking and commenting. Yes, that is Temple of the Sun, and I have seen Glass Mountain, too-- I have some photos I like, but they don't really need to be here on SP.
I camped higher up on one of my three visits here, but not this one. My brothers and I stayed at the primitive campground near the Cathedral Valley Overlook-- very cold March night, great dawn.
I, too, love Capitol Reef, especially those northern and southern areas you only access by the dirt roads.
landscape Bob !
Thanks-- it's a wonderful place, one of my favorites in Utah.
Climbable! ?????? Gorgeous picture!
Thank you-- Cathedral Valley is one of my favorite places in Utah, though I imagine you probably don't need me to tell you about beautiful places in Utah.
I have often examined my pictures of this "rock" and looked at topo maps and tried to envision a way up it. That thing looks ready to fall apart, though. But I'd love to get up it.
great piece of rock- thanks!
Thanks, Charles! Just pray that you remembered sunglasses and sunscreen if you're out there.
yes, I can well imagine!
That is just spectacular. It must really be something to be looking up at that. Great picture!
Thanks! This is just one of many incredible formations found in this area.
