Views are magnificent the rocky barrier which dominates the base of the Plateau d'Assy reminded my climbing partner of the Bright Angel Trail of the Grand Cannyon. The summit of le Colloney, which has a trig point, lies to the left along a crest and separated by a gap. from the gap, ascend a boulder-field and then you can reach the summit after a short exposed section. The summit has unobscured views of Mont Blanc. access to col du Colloney can also be achieved in winter by Ski lift from Flaine, and is a recomended Ski mountaineering route.
From either sallanches or Le Fayet, go to the village of Passy. Take the D43 and follow it as far as the Plateau d'Assy. Carry on climbing about 3km up to praz-coutant (alt.1,200m). Leave vehicles at the end of the road, above the last houses and near the sanatorium.
No permits required. route cards can be left with Laurrent in the front reception of the sanatorium. The Plate hut on the desert de Plate (alt 2,032m) is surrounded by chalets. A spring rises behind the hut and food and drinks are available when the hut is open. This is your last water supply
During the summer it is beautiful! During the winter the views are magnificent. the route approaches from the south it is classified as a grade II Climbing time 4 hours 30 minutes we did it in 6 hours
many camp sites in the area and several Gite de France, Gite de France bookings can be made through P&O Ferries.
