The 'Big 4' on Big Four

The 'Big 4' on Big Four

The 'Big 4' on Big Four. Photo taken from Cadet Peak on 9-3-11. This is the view of Big Four that most of the early miners in the area had, so it's easy to see how the mountain got its name. Red line shows the final route we took to the summit - the number of slings we saw suggested that most parties go this way (class 3/4). Unlike the 'notch' variation, this route has no brush to deal with. Additionally, on the date of our climb (6-8-14), this route had no overhanging snow and ice slabs, while the 'notch' variation did. Two 100' rappels (i.e. 200' rope) will be adequate to return to the snow in the couloir.
