No wonder that this place inspired so many romantic painters like Caspar David Friedrich. If you click on the link to Wikipedia below the photo, you can see a few paintings.

Re: Are thoseYes, they are. This is a sandstone massif, and on the top are the ruins of a medieval castle and of an abbey. In the album "Lusatian & Zittau mountains" you can find a picture with a natural sandstone wall which was smoothened in order to make it more difficult for enemies to get up there. Soon I will post some more pictures of the Oybin.
