The Chips Fire

For two minutes after I returned to our Jeep it "snowed" large white ashes intermixed with charcoal black pine needles and small pieces of bark. Knowing that the huge Chips Fire was not far away, just on the ridge across Highway 89, we hurried down. This was our view soon after passing Greenville Saddle. Luckily the fire burned to but did not cross Highway 89! The fire was 63,000 acres (99 square miles), spanning 19 x 11 miles, and only 55% contained.
