Thats a Quality List!

Obviously some effort went into this one and its very appealing visually as well. I'm happy to be the first to vote on it. Great job. Hope I can get into this area some day.

Re: Cool

Thanks for checking it out. It's almost amazing in this day and age that this has never been compiled before, but that would be consistent with the lack of general information for the range. Take Care.

Question

Do ya'll Idaho folks use the 300-ft rule and call them Ranked peaks? Meaning, is there a 300-ft drop from the summit of these listed peaks to their neighboring peaks?

Just curious, seems we Colorado folks use this rule often. Any Colorado list usually comes with peaks only ranked.

Great page.

Re: Question

Hi Kane-I think it's generally used here when dealing with the Lost River Range where the peaks are the tallest in the state and height is of concern (much like the 14er's). In the Sawtooth Range, the emphasis is not always on the tallest peaks, although those are always interesting. The best quality rock climbing peaks occur on the lower towers in the 9000-10000 ft range, and many of those have unofficial names. Still, I think because of the sheer vertical nature of many of those named pinnacles, the 300 foot rule is adhered to. There may be just a few where the rule is broken. I've noticed that this topic is rarely discussed in Idaho climbing and scrambling circles.

Nicely done...

Great list Sean! What a range huh... I noticed that about 80% of the peaks on the list had an easiest route that was class 3 or higher, and almost 40% were class 5 and above!!! I'd say that qualifies as a technical range. Thanks for the contribution.

Re: Nicely done...

I agree, no way anyone had done them all... at least it's highly unlikely. I mean come on 7-9 of them are aid climbs. Summiting all peaks on this list is a lofty goal for any climber.

Thanks

Thanks for checking out the list. I'm doing Aconcagua in Jan 2008, if you have any interest? If not, words of wisdom are always appreciated.

Great List

A lot of thought goes into writing anything on the whole Sawtooth range. It is not the biggest range, but it has just so many things that are compacted in all those acres of land. This is a splendid list of scrambles and climbs!!

Re: Great List

Thanks for checking out the list! One cool thing about this list is that it grows every year by a few peaks, since there's many rock towers or unnamed peaks in seldom explored areas that people "discover".

Holy cow!

That's sure a lot of peaks Mr. Sean! I bookmarked this page just so I can have a nice list of options... Thank you for putting your time and effort into this so the rest of us can benefit from it.

Re: Holy cow!

Thanks Kris- glad I could provide a list like this. The thing is, it keeps growing. Originally the list had 112 on it. I'm chasing a rising number!

Peak 9807?

Looking at a topo of the Warbonnet-Tohobit peak area I couldn't help but notice a quite independent peak which on the topo I am using (Earthwalk Press) is labelled 9807. The peak sits about halfway between Tohobit and Warbonnet right on the same ridge. I could not locate it on the complete list. Has its elevation been revised and I'm not seeing it in the right place or is this a peak that should be added?
