The Mirador, Guatemala

The Mirador, Guatemala

The Mirador--meaning "viewpoint" in Spanish--is a remote archeological site in northern Guatemala. Feel free to watch a video of our 5-day expedition to the site, here. This night was the highlight of the entire trip. As my friend Katherine said: ''There are few moments in my life where I've felt as alive as when I witnessed the sun set and the full moon rise simultaneously atop a colossal Mayan temple.'' To get the shot (which was a collaboration between Aron Ralston and I) we set the camera to a 30 second exposure, used headlamps to scribble out the letters, and let the full moon create the backlight. Post processing was minimal--basically some simple cloning to remove a few distracting elements.
