Just reading it!!

Sounds like you had a typical Galloway day - Just a foot note - the Awful Hand is the ridge that runs from the Merrick up to Shalloch on Minnoch (that's a big day if you've got two cars). I think the idea is that the peaks are the knuckles and the ridges running towards the west are the fingers. The bits of plane are what's left of a F-14 that crashed a long time ago - I've not seen it myself but apparently near the top there's a small crag that shows signs of an impact.

I'm enjoying your trip reports v. entertaining! Try the the Rhinns of Kell if you fancy another long day. Cheers
