After topping out late on Mount Darwin, it looked like the waning light would be a lot more useful for the descent than photography. The horizon seemed pretty clouded out. But I had only picked my way a few hundred feet down the north face when I nearly fell off it after looking up to see the previously dim landscape on fire. The direct light only lasted a couple minutes, but it was the most vivid I've ever seen. Still being high on the side of a wild, remote mountain amplified the feeling of awe to an intense level. Probably a good thing that I didn't stay on the summit to see the whole 360° panorama, I just may have been too stupefied to make it down.
