The Sky Is Burning

The Sky Is Burning

Normally don't post sunsets, but I caught this view looking northwest from the north side of Arizona's Bell Rock. The piece of land with the flat top (in the foreground) is what locals call Airport Mesa (4,830'). Rising directly above Airport Mesa are 6,355' Thunder Mountain or Capitol Butte on the left, and the 5,977' high point of the Coffee Pot Mountain complex on the right. Brins Mesa is the flat-topped formation to the right of Coffee Pot Mountain. Though impressively steep from the south, Capitol Butte can be surmounted by climbing a short section of Class 4 rock above the Andante Trailhead. I'd like to give it a try as soon as the weather cools down. August 13, 2009

Re: Lovely Pink Sky

Josh, you're right! I used to be a sailor,
back in 1975.

I was always delighted to see a red sky at
night, and to some that's as good as GOLD.
