I used to live in a little town called Union Mills, NC. Been through this region many times. The highest point is Buzzard Roost at 3,110 feet. The highpoint's UTM is 17 432602E 3941514N (NAD27) or 35° 37.01'N, 81° 44.65'W
Buzzard Roost actually was once on the state park maps (up until about ten years ago). Now there's no mention of it. I suppose because in recent years it was just off park property, but now the park has doubled in size.
I've lived here in NC since 1980, and it is a beautiful state. Not enough of it is in park lands, but it's a great place to hike and backpack, climb and paddle.

I'll have to hike to those coordinates!
