The South Ridge of the Aiguille du Meige

The South Ridge of the Aiguille du Meige

This is an all time Alpine classic, especially with the full connecting traverse to the Aigle (Eagle) hut on the other side. We waited a week for the weather to clear, and ended up doing what was meant to be mostly a rock route in crampons for much of the way. The picture is on one of the rare dry bits. c. 12hrs guidebook time for the full traverse, ended after 25hrs of constant climbing. Moonlit traversing of exposed alpine ridge above the cloud was sweet. Hanging off a single bent piton whilst your partner jugs a stuck ab rope at 4am is not.
