Kangaroo Temple...What's the BETA on the rappel, is there a fixed station now? Last time I went up it we rappeled the route. Thanks, Derek.

Re: Kangaroo Temple...Hey, where's the Kangaroo Temple page on SP? I'm not gonna put this one up (was with two EX-girlfriends on this peak...nuff said).
I assume you're talking about the rappel back to the standard notch for the standard/easy route. Back in 1999 and 2000 there was a bolt for the first rappel from the summit "plateau." You had to walk left (or whatever the direction is, topozone is kaput right now) toward the notch down a sandy ramp to where it turned into a large slab at the lip of the face above the notch. A bolt on the slab a few yards back from the lip allowed for a rappel off the free-hanging upper face. It was a double as I recall (but could be wrong) and barely made it to a ledge on 50m ropes. It's a really cool rappel once you sidle/plop over the awkward lip. There are two more rappels after that to get back to the notch. I think those aren't doubles.

Re: Kangaroo Temple...Thanks, I might go up with my daughter this weekend (Fathers Day ya know). Couldn't remember if it was a double or a single rope rappel.
If we get some nice photos I might post it (KT) and Little Finger. Actually I would rather post The Tomahawk and The Fin more.

Re: Kangaroo Temple...PS. It's been 15 years since I've been up it, and your details are similar to what I remember. I think there are only two double rope rappels.

Re: Kangaroo Temple...I checked my Mountaineers guidebook. It says first rappel is double. Below that rappel I do remember doing two more rappels. I checked my pictures and they appear to be singles. I'll send the relevant pics to your email.
