Did this a couple weeks back. I approached via summit trail- the tip top of the dead tree is evident from the trail intersection, but upon circling around I went too far, and had to descend into the gully at the point where the dead tree stands, then ascend the other side. Rock was very solid. Though there were gusts of around 30-40mph wind on the ground, the route was mostly shielded. Climbing shoes might be a bit overkill for this route- I was perfectly happy in my Mantas. If you intend to take the Meadows trail in the summer, be prepared for lots of direct sun exposure and high temperatures mid morning and on.
