One week ago we did the bella vista tarversee to Piz Palu and saw people come up on the Kuffner pillar. It looks impressive and very cool to do. Just one question: do you need to place gear or are there pitons on the route like on the fortezza ridge?

Hi ElbrusProject! The only "technical" place is a short but exposed ridge. I believe there were a few pitons. I would say, bring 3-4 slings and a rope and you'll get through it just fine. Probably exposed UIAA III+ for a few minutes.
