The White Willow

The White Willow

The White Willow (Salix alba) in the meadow below Mount Wotluszowska. Summer of 2007. White Willows are decidious trees that can live up to 100 years old. They are in flower from April to May, and their seeds ripen in June. They can only grow in sunny locations and prefer moist soil. They attract wildlife, especially birds who like to nest in their cavities. The bark of white willow has anti-inflammatory properties and can be used to reduce fever and relieve joint pain.
