That's your problem...You weren't on the SE ridge. That's a picture of the west ridge.

Re "my problem"--I know fully well I'm responsible and that I have navigational "issues" as 1000peaks says. I get lost in my own neighborhood for cying out loud. I'm not blaming you for anything, if that's what you're implying. But I made it up, made it down, and all is fine.

Re: That's your problem...This is definitely the west ridge--I just climbed it on Sun, and have a picture looking back down the ridge from the summit that almost exactly matches this one. (It doesn't sound like what you climbed, though--the west ridge was class 2 apart from one short bit of third class, around the third or fourth bump from the left).

Re: That's your problem...I looked at this on Google Earth and it does look as if one were looking toward Telescope Peak. If one is looking down the west ridge, it does bend to the south for a while before resuming its westerly direction. Also note the shadowing on the right side of the ridge indicating that north is to the right.

I don't know what the hell I went up at this point. I've studied my photos vs. cp0915's countless times and I can't figure out where I am exactly in relation to his shots. Sometimes I appear to be in the same spot, only higher or lower, other times, more to the west, and in yet other shots, more to the east.
If you've got some time to waste and you're not sick to death of this thread yet, open 2 windows and in one window look where I posted all my pics in sequence [http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/leadoffhit/album?.dir=7732&.src=ph], and compare my shots with the ones he posted on this site (make both windows about the same size so they're side by side on your screen), you'll see what I mean:
- Compare my #1 and #2 to his "Pyramid Peak from the approach." His approach looks similar to my #1, which I took from near Hwy 190. My #2 is from where I started heading up--the easy, rounded ridge in the center of the shot--over towards the right of his appoach shot.
- My #7 ('knife-edge" shot) vs. his "Classic desert scenery" shows the same ridge in the background to the west, but he looks closer to it than I am, so--is he west of me here?
- My #8 ("Next ridge over") vs. his "Looking southwest from along the southeast ridge" shows a similar perspective of the far distant mtns in the back--note where that sharp downward slope is at the right of my picture--match it to where it appears in his shot. I think my pic is from higher up, but otherwise, it seems practically identical . . .
- My #10 ("From the first false summit") vs. his "A typical view along the scenic southeast ridge." Both shots look to the east, but again, I appear to be higher up. The perspective looks pretty much the same, though maybe I'm more west of where he is here?
- My # 12 ("Looks like a rainbow rock") with his "Summit view looking east" shows the same slope. I'm not on the summit at this point though. Yet the perspective is again almost the same.
If you took any photos--please post them! I'd love to see what your route looks like along the way. Though honestly, if I was on the west ridge--that's news to me, and I apologize to cp0915 for my bratty remark. I obviously AM an idiot.
Anyway--glad you did it and had no problems.

Sorry for the delay in response. I only just got my photos up (I'm really behind on posting everything from last year). They're here.
I can't really figure out where you went up, but concerning your pictures...
Pic #2: I think the SE ridge is on the right skyline, and the west ridge is on the left skyline. The gentle ridge that heads up to the left of the summit, and then turns right towards the highpoint, could be one of many ridges on the south side of the peak.
Pic #7: This is looking towards Telescope Peak (I believe), towards the southwest. I don't think Courtney can be closer to the Panamint Range than you are, as I don't think this view would be seen most of the way up the SE side of the peak--that intermediate bump in the foreground in these pictures would be out of view due to the intervening ridgeline. So the SE ridge is about 90 degrees CCW from where you're looking in this picture.
Pic #8: Again, the SE ridge would be about 90 degrees CCW from here.
