This is the 2 metres step...

This is the 2 metres step that you need to downclimb when you are heading up to the peak. It mentions this section in the "Scrambles in the Canadian Rockies" book. If you slip, you will fall a little more than 2 metres, and you will land on the path below that will BYPASS this entire section. Taken May 1, 2005 with my Nikon Coolpix 5400.

2m?

This downclimb is mentioned in the book 'Scrambles of the Canadian Rockies' as being "2m and not steep". Well I'd beg to differ. Looking at this photo and considering that the man in it is about ~2m tall, then what would you estimate the downclimb as? 4 or 5 metres I think. How about the angle of incline? If this is "not steep" the what would be considered steep? Sometimes that book really frustrates me for its lack of accuracy, although I'm still glad I've got it!

Re: 2m?

I totally agree with you! when we got to this "2 metre downclimb," we both looked over the edge and said....."uuuuhhhh...2 metres?!" If you fall, you will be falling a LOT more than 2 metres (probably 6 metres). But you only need to downclimb 2 metres of this section before you can continue on a fairly level section that can easily be stepped onto. But like I say, if you fall before you get there, you won't land on the flat section. There were lots of good solid holds on the whole thing, but still i can imagine a lot of people turning back here because they were not anticipating the greater drop past where you stop downclimbing.
