Tonata Creek Buttress

Tonata Creek Buttress

Looking up and southwest from Big Horn Bend in the Kettle River Valley at 1,900’ elevation into the drainage of Tonata Creek the heavy granite buttressed cliff faces form a rugged frame for this mountainous stream. The northern shoulder of 5,739 feet (1749 m) Bodie Mountain is seen center ground of the image. This is historically gold rich country and steep Tonata Creek has been placer mined over the years. The area is home to large mammals including black bear, whitetail deer, cougars, and bobcat. Large avian species include bald eagles, redtail hawks, osprey, and horned owls. Much of Tonata Creek is on the Colville National Forest, in Ferry County, Washington State.
