No Joke Scree  Sucess!

This is a no joke mountain. Dont underestimate the difficulty walking in scree up hill for a couple hours. Beautiful view from the summit. After hiking down, went into Yosemite to hike around.

Boundary Peak, Trail Canyon Route

Started hiking from the trailhead at 7:30am and reached the third saddle (where a return trail descends the scree slope into Trail Canyon) at 1:30pm and decided we had run out of time to reach the top and return to the trailhead before dark at 8pm.

Only Us at TH!  Sucess!

We were the only party climbing from Trail Canyon that day. The trail does peter out into game trails. To gain the saddle we went up to the right of the gully on the sage brush, but descended in the trees on the other side of the gully. Above the saddle the trail was fairly good and skirted the subpeak. Above the upper saddle there were a lot of braided trails - some nicer or looser than others. We stayed closer to the ridge on the way down.

B&M  Sucess!

Three of us started out from the end of the road at Trail Canyon and took the usual route up Boundary, with the exception of myself and one other who took a side trip over what is known as Hosebag Peak along the way. The trip from Boundary to Montgomery was its usual difficult self, but both people with me were able to summit, and I took my second summit of this mountain, and likely my last!

Exploratory  Sucess!

I was there two days early because of changes in my climbing plans (it was over 100 degrees in the Owens Valley the past few days, and the TH for New York Butte, for example, was only a thousand feet or so higher than Lone Pine... for get that!). I was to meet some people on the 13th for a trip up Montgomery, but I hadn't been up the Trail Canyon route, only a non-standard route up the southern ridge the year before. I climbed Trail Canyon Saddle Peak along the way as well (on the Nevada 11K list).

State Highpoint #41!!!  Sucess!

After a nearly two-year hiatus from State Highpointing, a friend and I sought out, and successfully summited, Boundary Peak.
DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE: The so-called "scree" is just loose gravelly-sand... kind of annoying but manageable. The loosest stuff is on the lower slopes; the upper slopes are bouldery. Also, there is a well-defined trail basically leading from the Trail Canyon TH to the summit; no scrambling needed and very easy to follow. I wouldn't rate this as a peak for amateur hikers, but it is not very difficult, either.

Trail Canyon  Sucess!

With Miguel Forjan. Clear day. Enjoyed the first two miles as you walk nearby meadows and cow poop. Took a small break at Trail Canyon Saddle and proceeded towards the summit. Didn't feel like walking over to Montgomery Peak. Came down via the scree bowl on the far right (east).

Boundary Peak  Sucess!

Back in the day before Highpointing was so popular, there wasn't much of a trail after the high saddle. We saw just one other hiker that day.
