Tranquil evening in Vinjerac...

Tranquil evening in Vinjerac with Velebit (South Velebit, Paklenica area) in the background. Between is Velebitski Kanal (Velebit Channel) but houses on the peninsula hide it. At such moments it is hard to imagine how this poor village is beaten by Bura wind from Velebit. On nearby Maslenicki Most bridge gusts up to 305kmh/190mph have been measured!

Vinjerac` Bura

Hello Velebit,

I have spent many summers in the Vinjerac because my grandma lived there… The view and the presence of mighty Velebit is something elementary there what is really hard to explain in the words… This picture (and other you have post) are very nice examples.

Only once I have spent winter holidays in the Vinjerac and I can remember that Bura was blowing with such a force that wind literally passed through every wall in the house… It is not rare that roofs were taken off or boats crashed by strikes of Bura in Vinjerac and other villages in Velebitski Kanal.

Thanks for that beautiful pictures!

With best regards,

Lejinad

Re: Vinjerac` Bura

Thank you lejinad both for compliments and for the nice witness account from the place!! It is true, people that didn't experience Bura below Velebit can't even come close to imagining how it looks like. Its relentless force keeps me at awe each time and I've seen so many Bura's. It is like having frequent hurricanes on your door step. For example this winter (04/05) there were 15 days with hurricane force Bura below Velebit and on one of those days it was reaching 280kmh/174mph! When it comes to wind Velebit channel is one of the craziest places on our planet and maybe craziest inhabited place on the planet!
