Tree with Blue Flowers...

Tree with Blue Flowers...

At first it looked as though I'd discovered a new species: a tree with blue flowers. But no such luck (sigh...), merely a vine wrapping its way up and around, probably reaching for more sun. Whatever, it sure looks nice! Photo by Vernon, June 24, 2008.

The blue flowers

are wild clematis (Clematis alpina) and the tree is a subalpine fir (Abies lasiocarpa). You are right that the vine is using the tree to seek sunlight.
