Highest lake in the World?Google Earth shows this lake to be 220m X 150m at 5915m, compared to Licancabur crater "lake", which is 64m X 33m at 5910m. highestlake.com defines a lake as having a surface area of at least 1 hectare (100m X 100m), making the Tres Cruces Norte crater water a real lake, while Licancabur crater water would be a "pool".

Re: Highest lake in the World?That's a very interresting remark Chris. If we stick to this definition of a lake, yes Tres Cruces Norte is indeed dethroning the Licancabur pool. Anyway, if we consideer this "pool" appellation, the Ojos del Salado pool at 6390m was already higher than Licancabur.
But there is another laguna in the region that could be the real winner... At 5990m on the big Walter Penck massif (27°13'50.41"S 68°33'53.74"O) this 170x90m piece of water could be the real highest lake in the world. Tres Cruces Norte would be then in second position.

Good to read that, thank you ! Just few comments that you could suggest for change to this interresting site : the name "Cerro Tipas" is almost never used. Today the most common name for this mountain is Walter Penck and sometimes Cazadero. Concerning the Licancabur's pool, the height quoted on this site is wrong. 5916m is the height of the summit, the pool is approx. 15 to 20 meters further down as can be seen on this photo :

Just for fun, I shot a short video in the 3 Cruces Norte's laguna and many particles in suspension can be seen. Algaes ? Plankton ? I don't know...

Pular is 6233 meters high and the frozen "laake" seems very near the summit... I'll have a closer look on google earth and let you know.
