East ridge  Sucess!

Traversed from below Colby Pass, then up the pleasant, solid class 2-3 ridge on day 3 of a backpack. Descended to Nine Lakes via much less pleasant south ridge, with class 4 crux. Trip report.

Dayhike from Crescent Meadow  Sucess!

Like Matthew, I was considering dropping down some SW chute for a quick descent, but lower cliffs that I spotted on the approach deterred my decision. Dayhike from Crescent Meadow-18 hours, 40 min.

West Ridge  Sucess!

Started direct ridge, switched to south side, and finally to the north. Stop along a traverse from 9 Lakes Basin to Upper Cloud Canyon.

From Big Arroyo  Sucess!

Didn't see a soul on this solo outing. Over Glacier and Hands and Knees Pass on day one to reach Big Arroyo. Spent the second day on Kaweah, day three on Triple Divide, and up Lippincott and out on day four. Was a long day up Nine Lakes Basin to Triple Divide. Climbed part of the south ridge, then traversed over and up the east ridge.

SW Face  Sucess!

A beautiful lonely destination in those days.

West Ridge (ascent) / SW Face (descent)  Sucess!

A long 18hr dayhike from Crescent Meadow. Was unable to tag Lion Rock at the same time. My experience on the SW Face was pretty much the same as Matthew's. The West Ridge was ok, but not a great route. Trip Report

South Ridge (ascent) / SW Face (descent)  Sucess!

Long dayhike out of Crescent Meadow to Lion Rock and Triple Divide. Descended the most prominent chute from the summit on the SW Face, and got cliffed out right at the end--finally found a class 4 chimney to make my way through the cliffs. (There was more class 3 below that to pass another cliff band). I was getting nervous as it was starting to get dark, and swore loudly at Secor when I hit the cliffs--might have been nice if he'd have mentioned them! Route-finding down to Tamarack Lake was tricky in the dark--many small cliffs.

After the long, boring hike to Eagle Scout/Stewart last year, I learned my lesson and took my MP3 player this time. This was a good idea, and made the long approach much more tolerable.

Route Climbed: East Ridge Date Climbed: April 2004  Sucess!

Beautiful spring conditions, not to bad of a knife edge ridge and it all made for a nice summit.
