Walking

Great page. Is the tunnel open to pedestrian traffic, or is hitchhiking the only way through without a car?

Yes, the tunnel is open to pedestrians. It'll take you about 15 minutes to walk through it at a fast pace.
I'd recommend to hitch hike it. The smoke coming out of the mufflers is very strong.
