I have enjoyed a lot your story and although it can be completed in one day, it's advisable and far more enjoyable to climb this Volcano in two days, considering that the Hut has been reopened and offers basic but good facilities and food.
An important detail I don't want to forget mentioning is that Tungurahua is actually the 9th highest elevation in the Ecuadorian Andes; Carihuairazo with 5.018 m is the number 10. Some misinformation about Carihuairazo actual height has led to this mistake ;).
