Big Deal  Sucess!

I've been to the summit of Big Mountain four times now, three times in spring and once in fall. There are excellent views from the outcrop near the summit. I approached from the north via Cowans Gap once, and I approached from the east via Hogback Mountain three times. I saw no people on the trail on any of those occasions, despite pleasant weather.

2 day backpacking trip  Sucess!

Did a two day trip from PA 16 to Mountain Green Rd. near Spring Run, PA on the Tuscarora Trail. Followed ridge of Tuscarora Mountain for much of it, including Big Mountain, the highest point along the ridge. The last couple of miles before dropping down to Mountain Green Rd. were definitely the hardest, as there were a chaos of wet, movable rocks that made up the trail.

Route Climbed: Tuscarora Trail Date Climbed: Summer 2004, and various other times  Sucess!

Very pretty mountain especially in fall. Tuscarora Trail is similar to the A.T. with a few steeper sections. Great place!
