Upper Bighorn Sheep Canyon - Do I Really Have to Put My Wet Swimsuit Back on After Breakfast?

Upper Bighorn Sheep Canyon - Do I Really Have to Put My Wet Swimsuit Back on After Breakfast?

Breakfast at Vallie Bridge Campground on a cold morning in early August It was really chilly when we got up the third morning; so chilly we grabbed fleece and long pants to wear to breakfast. Well, at least those without antifreeze for blood! But rafters know that eventually cozy fleece gets traded for swimwear (often still wet) and cold sunscreen lotion; warm sneakers exchanged for damp water booties and hats for plastic helmets. There are always two schools of thought here: keep your warm stuff on until you're the last one packing your dry bag OR just dive into your freezing raft wear early on and grin and bear it! I've always been in the "just get it over with" group but this morning I gave in and put my swimsuit on under my long pants; still less than the guys!!!

After living in central

Arizona for 15+ years, I most certainly don't
have antifreeze for blood. If I volunteered
for one of these "cold weather" rafting
adventures, I'd probably make an investment
in a good wetsuit, you know, like
scuba divers wear. Something with lightweight
neoprene; with an inner layer of fleece to
keep me toasty as I make a fool of myself,
and float crazily down the wild river.

Re: After living in central

Well, you probably wouldn't need one if you rafted in the summer, Larry! It was only chilly a couple mornings; later it was hot enough to dip in the river! Besides, you probably would look good in a wetsuit, right?

We're still waiting for a good snowstorm this winter....!!! Bring on the snow!
