Re: Did you try

Hey Martin,

Yeah we started with Cruel Sister and got it clean 1st time. If you got big hands (like me) the wide exit at top is easy (fists & rattly fists) and it's just about endurance then. Awsome route - you gonna love it! Then got spanked (hung) on Blood Clot a 10b next door. Did some other 3-star 10a (fairly rated - no surprises) to the left of CS. On Sunday, went back and tried Blood Clot again. THis time fell :) Did CS again 'cause it's SOOOO good. Quasar was short but hard for 10a (hung on it - my fingers pumped out) - comparable to Blood Clot I thought. The Gorge is pretty awsome! Can't believe we have not been there before.

Re: Did you try

Would love to see some photos and beta for Lower Gorge climbs! You should put together a page for that area.

Re: Did you try

Thanks Martin.

Yeah, I was thinking about that. On one hand I felt that the 3 days we've spent there so far don't make me an "expert" on the area - on the other hand, I can post the page and let folks add route beta in time. If I post it, I'll model it on your Vantage page - i.e. Smith: Basalt Areas (or something) and then add a route page per each wall listed by Watts (one section/route etc...). What do you think?

Re: Did you try

Just wanted to point out that I really like the way Martin did his Vantage page - I think a similar page for the Lower Gorge would be awesome.

Radek - I'm looking for Red Rocks pictures - where are they? :)

Re: Did you try

Didn't get a chance to post them yet.....just kidding ;)

So what do you guys think? Options for this potential page are as follows (in my mind):

1. Smith: Basalt Walls

would include Lower & Upper (hard bolted lines almost exclusively) Gorges, Sudent Wall, and Rimrock Basalt. Within each there are smaller walls that constitute sections in Watts' guidebook (these could be made into route pages).

2. Smith: Lower Gorge (only)

Again Watt's sections on smaller walls could be added as route pages.

Which is better? Other ideas? Any other takers who'd like this project?

thanks.

Re: Did you try

I would prefer "Smith Basalt Climbing Areas" or "Smith Basalt" as a page. Then a seperate route page for each wall. Your "Lower Gorge" route could be set up similar to the "Middle East Wall" route on the Vantage page.

One thing to note is that it is a ton of work to add all of those blank routes as a new section in the route page, since each edit only gives you 1 new section. I prefer one section per route, since you can then attach the photo directly to that route without having to manually hyperlink in the thumbnail. If you have a lot of routes to add to a wall page, perhaps only enter the routes you've done, and put in a blank section where people can add more routes. It would be a lot less work that way.

One thing I did on the Vantage page was to wait a day after voting useful on someone's route additions so they received point credit for it when you delete it and incorporate it into the route page.

Ok, I'll stop typing now. :-)

Re: Did you try

Martin,

I agree - my thinking was in line with what you describe above (yeah, I too thought that I'd just add the rotues per wall which I've done only instead of adding space holders for all routes on that wall given in book).

thanks.
