Nice shot.

Intriguing mountain. That old time Swiss guide, the name starts with a Z and has that ridge named after him on Cook...said Sefton was the most dangerous mountain in NZealand or something like that.

Re: Nice shot.

Thanks ktnbs. I think you mean Mattias Zurbriggen who intended to be the first on top of Aoraki/Cook but some local boys had other ideas. Wouldn't surprise me if Sefton was the most dangerous. This icefall is certainly very active - almost suicidal in most parts I would think. I'm told the north buttress is very rotten.

Re: Nice shot.

I'll be returning for another try of Aspiring in early December. Lucked out and got "free milage" tickets and get two nights in Sydney on the way...will do the harbour bridge climb as that looks like good tourist fun.

Re: Nice shot.

Good luck with Aspiring. That's a really beautiful peak on a clear day. Are you going up French ridge and accross the bonar to Aspiring?

Re: hanging glaciers

Hi Charles. Yes it is a very active glacier and it's just as steep as it looks. Routes up this face are well to the left of what is visible in this shot. The glacier (Sefton Icefall) cracks and rumbles all day and night long. It's kind of cool watching lumps of ice the size of houses dropping off. If you visit your brother, make sure you visit Mt Cook NP.
