Useless Panorama

Useless Panorama

When reading a recent forum thread about panoramas, I reflected on the need for panorama photos. This summer I took a five frame panorama of Mt. Hood from Bald Mountain Ridge. Using a 40 mm focal length and a portrait mode with my camera, I expected to get great detail. What I got was a lot of useless pixels. Printing at a resolution of 200 ppi, I could print a picture about five and a half feet long. Of course, I don't have a printer that can do that. After taking my panorama, I took a single exposure at a focal loength of 17mm. It covers all the area of the panorama and still exceeds the 19 inch capacity of my printing operation. Being rtired, I have time to do stupid things but I have learned that the use of panoramas should usually be reserved for jobs that a wide angle lens can't handle.
