Illampu, Southwest Ridge Route: Taken at our highpoint on the wall. Even though we did not summit it was an excellent experience. It took three days of hiking with mules and porters to reach our highcamp at 16,700 feet. We turned a half pitch below the top of the wall doing 5x60 meter raps to reach the base of the wall. The last two raps were with rockfall whizzing by as the sun warmed the wall; we hurried. It took us two days to reach Sorata on the way out.
