Duane Gilliland, Greg Slayden, and yours truly on the summit of the highpoint of Glacier National Park in Montana, Mt. Cleveland. By summitting Cleveland, Duane and I became the first people in history to complete the 58 current and former Ultra-prominence peaks in the 48 states, including pre-eruption Mt. St. Helens. Bob Packard and Edward Earl had completed the 57 remaining Ultras before us. August 17, 2008.

Persistance counts!!

Congrats, Bob! However, you're lookin' a bit
on the slim side - hoping that the upcoming
Autumn winds don't blow you away. Take care!

Re: Persistance counts!!

Funny you mention getting blown away. On the day we hiked into the Mt. Stimson area it was very windy up on the high ridge, and at one point a gust of wind caught me wrong and indeed blew me down. Only the second time in my life that has happened. But by and large I love being slim -- that much less to carry on my poor feet! :-) -Bob

Congratulations

What a great accomplishment. I doubt that few people know how many miles you've logged in getting to all the different peaks. And the wonderful variety, amazing. Some easy "Ultras" and some very difficult and dangerous "Ultras".
You indeed rock, both you and Duane.

Re: Congratulations

Thanks Dean! We did work hard at it, but it was all fun and games! The big incentive was to be the first ever to complete the list. Don't get many opportunities for that sort of thing! -Bob
