We spent a family holiday in Sibiu/Nagyszeben. Originally I planned to do this ascent together with the family (as a whole day program), but the weather turned bad, and I decided to do it alone. Since we were on family holiday, I didn't want to leave my wife and my daughter alone for long time, so I promised them to complete this excursion by breakfast time. I woke up in the apartment in Sibiu/Nagyszeben at 4:15 a.m. Soon I left the apartment. While driving to the Fagaras Mountains, I was a bit worried: a thunderstorm with heavy rain started. But I didn't return to the apartment, hoping the best. I arrived to the highpoint of the Transfagaras road at around 5:45 a.m. By that time it stopped raining. With big pace I ascended the peak, moreover I "bagged" the its smaller neighbour (Vf. Capra), too. The whole hiking took no more time than 1 hour 15 minutes. By breakfast time I was again in the apartment in Sibiu/Nagyszeben

the easy way
From Balea lac, up the short but steep blue triangle trail, then traversing along the blue cross trail.
The actual summit requires a bit of scrambling through a notch and then a walk along a knife edge - not dangerous but very fun.
Fantastic weather - passing clouds made great photos.
Note: avoid Balea Lac on Sunday afternoons unless you like hiking to the sound of car horns - traffic on the Transfagarasan higway backs up for miles. Luckily most of this hike is on the Capra Lac side, which is much quieter.
Descended by the shortcut (blue circle) that links to the trail to Vf. Netedu (blue stripe). The top of the blue circle trail is a somewhat loose rockslide, but this route is less crowded than the blue cross trail. Had a long visit from a chamois when we paused on this trail. Amazing to have that encounter just an easy ten-minute walking distance away from the crowded, stinking Balea lac.
Hiked up Vf Netedu from Albota a few days earlier - much more effort involved. Will put up a page for Netedu later once I've gone through my photos.
