Vertical Control Mark

Vertical Control Mark

This is the official government "vertical control mark" for Mauna Loa that is cemented next to the rock pile at the summit. While not technically at the absolute highest point, this is generally how you know you've reached the correct summit of most mountains. This was cemented in 1975, so maybe the 1984 eruption added height to the mountain in some places.
