View of the South Summit and...

View of the South Summit and the upper portions of Cedar Ridge, as seen from Mount Nebo's Middle Summit. The cornice fracture which resulted in PelucidWombat's 1000-foot fall on our 2/19/05 attempt is visible just right of center. A closeup of the accident site is shown in this photo.

Which cornice?

Curious. Which cornice is it? Is it the one just to the left of the longest rock rib visible?

Re: Which cornice?

A closeup is shown in this photo. Its directly below the red X. The cornice is hard to see in the photo but you can see the shadow on the slope below. If it had a occured just a few feet earlier we would have been right above the rock band (just to the right in the photo), and the results would have been far worse.

Re: Which cornice?

I'm putting up a photo with the accident and escape labeled, as well as having all cornices on Cedar Ridge highlighted. You'll be suprised how badly it is corniced!

Re: Which cornice?

I didn't bother with much annotation of the accident site, since I figured you knew the slope much better than me!
