HUAYNA POTOSI 6088m.The Huayna Potosí (Cerro Joven) is one of the most accessible mountains of the Cordillera Real in Bolivia. It is located at only 25 km. from the city of La Paz. The classic or normal route does not present technical difficulties. A good physical condition combined with a good acclimatization to the height and good weather are enough to increase in a large percentage the chances of reaching the top.
This mountain is one of the preferred snows for the experienced climbers and not experienced for its ascension characteristics, the highest peak is called Pico Norte (6088m.n.m.). It is also a site of great visual beauty.
In winter, snow and ice descend to 4,700 m.s. In the foothills of the snow, lagoons of singular colors are formed, surrounded by rocks of the Tertiary period, in the midst of periodic fogs.
It has scarce vegetation of height (brave straw and mosses) and some majestic birds, like the condor, the hawk and the Hail Mary.
The itinerary can vary depending on the visitor's abilities and acclimatization, there are three-day programs that include a day of practice in the glacier for beginners, a 2-day program for experienced climbers and a 1-day ascension program for climbers who are very well acclimatized and in good physical shape.
Undoubtedly HUAYNA POTOSI is a very attractive mountain for lovers of mountaineering.
