Route Description

The route follows a trail from the parking area that first heads up through old growth forests. When you get to the place where you can see the meadow and the cliffs on your left, you will enter an overgrown area of shrubs and bushes that you may have to bushwhack through. After that, it switchbacks up the side of the mountain. When you reach the ridge, fork left around the backside (east side) of the mountain. The trail continues up from there with some light scrambling at the summit to the old lookout site. 2 miles from car to summit with about 1800 feet of elevation gain.

I hiked this in July of 2002 and from about 5000 feet on up, there was steep snow on the trail that I had to kick footholds into and use my trekking poles as an ice axe to cross. If you lose the trail, don't be tempted to climb the false summit to get over to the real summit. It's steep with loose rock and not worth it in my opinion.

Essential Gear

None needed.
