Approach

You get to the base of the climb via the Sawyer Bay trail. Follow the old logging trail from the main (Mary Louise) campground. The total length of the trail is 16km or 10 miles roundtrip so its a bit of a haul.
The Chimney Trail ascends the Giant via the knees and is a steep hike past boulders the size of midsized cars and over some challenging obstacles.

Route Description

The route is pretty straightforward after you reach the base of the Sleeping Giant follow the Chimney Trail up over the Steep rock and around the car sized boulders to the top of the Giant's knees where you will find the Chimney lookout. Considerably more intrepid than the Nanda Bijou lookout with its railing and boardwalk.
The rock is often slippery and the trail has suffered recently from overuse so it has gotten considerably more challenging in the past few years... one should know basic rock climbing or bouldering moves in case it becomes necessary.

Essential Gear

Could use crampons and an ice axe early in the season. If rock climbing be sure to wear a helmet... otherwise all weather gear is essential, sturdy boots, sun screen, plenty of water, a heavy duty bug repellent if it is spring and trekking poles or an alpenstock would be an asset especially on the downclimb.
