Overview

Nowadays this is probably the shortest route to climb Midi de Bigorre and had interest for the visit to the nice Lac d'Oncet. It's possible the walk of the old road from Tourmalet but it's forbiden for the risk of fall of stones (and really is better the route of the Lake).

Slope: 1160m
Time to summit: 3h

Getting There

From Bagnéres de Bigorre go to SE across Campan, Artigues and ski resort of La Mongie. After Col du Tourmalet we turn to right (north) to the ski resort of Super-Barèges (1588m) before the village of Barèges.

Alternative trailhead: it's possible the beginning in a curve at 1944 meters in the descent of Col du Tourmalet but the parking it's difficult. From there a short walk bring to us to the upper part of the ski resort of Super-Barèges and the Cabanne de Toué.

Route Description

Descending the trackTrack

We walk in direction North but although it's possible the route across the route of Col d'Aoube turning fro the north of Pic d'Oncet the best itinerary it's the path in direction to Cabanne de Toué over the ski resort. In the upper side of ski resort under the south wall of Pic La Bonida we turn to north before to reach the Cabanne (signaled Lac d'Oncet). In the middle of the little valley we walk in easy terrain to reach the nice lake, the Lac d'Oncet (2254m). The lake is bordered for the right side (east) to reach the Col de Sencours (2378m). In the col we arrive to the old road that go to Col du Tourmalet.
Col de LacquetsCol des Laquets

We follow the road (it's possible the cut of some curves) to the old Hotellerie des Lacquets near of the Col des Laquets. In this area we search the path in left side to get the spun SW of the mountain. After a short ramp with an evident path (without snow, but with snow some cairns generally indicate the route) we arrive to the bottom of observatory and the
summit.
