Yes, I was on the trail that leads down to the highway and then up Bear Canyon. However, Mount Phillips is quite a ways away to the southwest. (I just dug out my old maps to check). We had come out of Bear Canyon and were making our way up to Visto Grande Camp.
I am glad you posted a comment on this—be sure to check out the pics I added to the Baldy page. I posted one of them because it looks just like the one you posted! I wonder if we were standing in the same spot when we took them? Could that tree on the left be the same one, eighteen years later?
