Caroline Face 6:50

By now, a good part of the face is glowing. As the sun rises, the contrast will become less dramatic. It doesn't get any better than this! Aoraki / Mount Cook, New Zealand.

Re: I like the...

Thanks :)

I remember I was fiddling quite a bit with my camera. I had to make sure it would be deliberately underexposed, zoom out, and I even changed position to try and get a better shot, and all that while the scene was changing constantly! I like the series too, although I don't think I'm doing the real experience justice. It's hard to get across how big a 2000 m snow and ice wall really is in a picture ... you gotta see it for yourself!

Re: I like the...

I don't doubt that it is an unbelievable sight in person.... but thanks for sharing a glimpse of the glory with us.

Certainly worth it

I must say it is certainly worth getting up early in the morning. On my last trip after climbing two peaks I was too tired to get out of bed for sunrise. Next time I'll have to be up and ready in time.

Re: Certainly worth it

I certainly understand how hard it is getting up early. For me, it´s usually not that I´m tired, but that my sleeping bag is nice and warm and it´s cold out there!

Still, I managed to get up early enough just yesterday. I actually planned to get up even earlier, but didn´t hear my alarm, so I ended up waking up just before dawn. And as my old stove is rather slow (I really should buy an MSR), I had plenty of time to watch the sunrise while I was melting snow. It will take a while, but when I´m home again, I´ll post them.
