The little valley of Santa Lucia

A wild place, rich in natural beauty; through it run an old Roman road which, in the past, was the only link between the Adige Valley, Lake Garda and the Po plain. Here you can find the signs and traces of mans work dating from ancient time: here the art of terrace - making and drystone -walking were pursued. The ancient and venerable olive grove is among the longest standing in the Garda area. Beneath these trees Saint Vigilio ( fourth century), Bishop of Trento, passed several times on his pastoral journeys along the eastern side of Lake Garda. In the past centuries emperors, kings and army leaders with their troops come down this road on their way to conquest of the fertile italian plains. In 1439, a unique historical event took place here: to oppose the dominion of the Visconti family over Lake Garda, the Venetians transported a whole fleet of Galleys through this rugged valley down to Torbole ( Having reached Mori village along the River Adige) Galeas per montes High up on the cliff you can see the ruins of Penede Castle, which bears witness to a remote feudal past.
