Overview

Kauapea Beach, more commonly known as Secret Beach, is a large beach on the Northeast coast of Kauai. Formally a nude beach, Secret Beach is now a very common tourist spot. Not only is Secret Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches on Kauai, it is also one of the best places on the island to climb.

Getting There

Turn off the Kuhio Highway 100 yards before mile marker 24 onto the first Kahiliwai Road. The road immediately bends to the left. Take the dirt road cut into the hill on the right and follow it three tenths of a mile to a parking area. The beach trail follows the barbed wire fence before turning down the hill. It takes seven minutes to walk down to the beach. At the end of the beach turn left and walk down the beach and you will see multiples walls you can climb. If you walk all the way to the end of the beach you will find multiple lava rock pools and a waterfall.

Red Tape

Secret Beach use to be a very common nudist beach, but now nudity on the beach is regulated by a security guard. You are welcome to use the beach and climb the walls just don't take your clothes off. If you take a right after leaving the trail you will find a trail that leads up a cliff. The trail is very well taken care of and has stairs. I believe you can walk up the trail but at the end of the trail you are cut off by private property signs.

Camping

None of the signs on the beach say that camping is illegal.
