This was my first time up Baldy. I parked at the ski lift parking lot and started hiking at about 0830 hours. I decided to hike straight up the ski run under the chairs rather than the long switch back road. It was loose in a few spots but I am glad I went this way I made the top of the lower lift in about 45 min walked less than a mile and gained the first 1400 feet of elevation. I then took the left ski run up to the top of the notch and beginning of Devil’s Backbone Trail. Devil’s Backbone was cool, I like the ridge line with drops on both sides. I got to the top in 2:30 min covering 3.75 miles. Took a few pictures and started back down. On the way down I decided to tag the top of Mt Harwood also. I figured why not I am already here. Then descended the rest of Devils’ Backbone, but took the right (now left) ski slope down. Just FYI looking up the right ski run has steep spots and flat spots, the left run is more of a gradual climb until the end were it gets a little steeper. Then went down the rest the way I came, and was back at the car before 1300 hours. Not bad for half a day’s work.
